This blended family of eight (plus two dogs) wanted a new home in which to create new memories together. Their dream was to find an old barn to renovate, but they also wanted a short commute to the children’s school in Westport. With no old barns in the vicinity, we suggested a radical idea; let’s design a new house to look like a renovated and expanded barn. They loved the idea. We found a few old barns upstate, had them disassembled, loaded onto trucks and shipped to the job site. After, combining the original beams, wallboards, flooring, millwork and hardware with new construction materials and technology, this unique home involve a beautiful New England barn hybrid whose aesthetic is both historic and contemporary.
